Hexagram 1: The Creative (乾) & Tzolkin

Hexagram 1 The Creative (乾 Qián) in I Ching and Tzolkin: Heaven over Heaven, pure yang. It maps to kins 1–4 (the Red Dragon wavespell) — the initiating energy of the cycle.

乾 qián · The Creative

The Creative (乾, Qián) is the first of the 64 I Ching hexagrams — six yang lines, Heaven above Heaven. It is pure, inexhaustible beginning: the force that initiates before anything takes form.

In the Argüelles Codon system, hexagram 1 corresponds to kins 1–4 of the Tzolkin calendar: the first four signatures of the 260-day cycle, opening the Red Dragon wavespell. Like The Creative, kin 1 (Red Magnetic Dragon) is the impulse of birth — the primal matter from which the rest of the cycle unfolds. Where the I Ching speaks of a celestial dragon rising through six stages, the Tzolkin speaks of a first wavespell unfolding the full run of tones.

This alignment is not a numerological accident but a deliberate bridge: both traditions place pure, initiating masculine energy at the very start of their map of time.

The Judgment

The Creative works sublime success, furthering through perseverance. The power of the original is at work — pure yang energy initiates all things.

The Image

The movement of heaven is full of power. The superior person makes themselves strong and untiring.
