Hexagram 34: Great Power (大壯) & Tzolkin
Hexagram 34 Great Power (大壯 Dà Zhuàng) in I Ching and Tzolkin: Thunder over Heaven, rising strength guided by discipline. It maps to kins 133–136 of the Tzolkin calendar.
大壯 dà zhuàng · Great Power
Great Power (大壯, Dà Zhuàng) is the hexagram of rising strength — Thunder above Heaven, four yang lines pushing up from below. The judgment warns plainly: great strength is rising, perseverance furthers, but it must be used with restraint and correctness, not recklessly. Thunder resounding in heaven is potent, yet the superior person does not tread paths that defy established order.
In the Argüelles Codon system, hexagram 34 corresponds to kins 133–136 of the Tzolkin calendar — the quartet opening the Blue Monkey wavespell. Kin 133 (Red Skywalker, tone 3) carries the impulse of exploration, kin 134 (White Wizard, tone 4) timelessness, kin 135 (Blue Eagle, tone 5) vision, and kin 136 (Yellow Warrior, tone 6) intelligence. It is a sequence in which raw momentum becomes aimed motion — the same arc the hexagram describes.
Set side by side, both traditions say one thing: growing strength demands equally fast-growing restraint — not a proven correspondence, but a lens through which both systems read the same stretch of the cycle.
