Hexagram 44: Coming to Meet (姤) & Tzolkin

Hexagram 44 Coming to Meet (姤 Gòu) in I Ching and Tzolkin: Heaven over Wind, an unexpected encounter of forces. It maps to kins 173–176 of the Tzolkin calendar — discernment toward what approaches.

姤 gòu · Coming to Meet

Coming to Meet (姤, Gòu) is the hexagram of the sudden encounter — Wind under Heaven, a single yin line pressing up into five yang lines. The judgment warns of a “powerful maiden,” a force that arrives unbidden and quickly seizes the initiative. The image shows the prince proclaiming commands to the four quarters of heaven: a chance meeting can reshape the balance of power in an instant, and wisdom lies in alert discernment, not in binding oneself too soon to what is new.

In the Argüelles Codon system, hexagram 44 corresponds to kins 173–176 of the Tzolkin calendar — four signatures joining Red Skywalker (Exploration), White Wizard (Timelessness), Blue Eagle (Vision), and Yellow Warrior (Intelligence). This run of self-existing, overtone, rhythmic, and resonant tones traces a movement from first contact with the unknown to the sharp intelligence needed to recognize what has actually arrived.

Set side by side, both traditions say the same thing about sudden contact: not every encounter needs to be accepted — sometimes the wisest act is to watch closely before committing.

The Judgment

Coming to Meet. The maiden is powerful. One should not marry such a maiden. An unexpected encounter — be discerning about what approaches you.

The Image
