Hexagram 58: The Joyous (兌) & Tzolkin

Hexagram 58 The Joyous (兌 Duì) in I Ching and Tzolkin: Lake over Lake, joyous exchange. It maps to kins 229–232 (the White Wind wavespell) — a motif of love and play.

兌 duì · The Joyous

The Joyous (兌, Duì) is the hexagram of pure joy — Lake resting upon Lake, a doubled image of open, radiant good cheer. Success comes through perseverance: true joy is not a fleeting high but inner serenity that ripens into shared exchange, as the image has it, joining with friends for discussion and practice.

In the Argüelles Codon system, hexagram 58 corresponds to kins 229–232 of the Tzolkin calendar — the four opening signatures of the White Wind wavespell. Kin 229 (Red Moon, tone 8) opens the flow, kin 230 (White Dog, Love, tone 9) brings loyalty of heart, kin 231 (Blue Monkey, Play, tone 10) is the essence of carefree joy, and kin 232 (Yellow Human, Free Will, tone 11) closes the quartet with a conscious choice of shared happiness — a wavespell of play and love mirroring the hexagram’s joyous exchange.

Set side by side, both traditions point to the same quality of time — not proof, but a lens: joy as something shared, not possessed.
